IRRIGATION SCHEDULING ON SAND-BASED CREEPING BENTGRASS Evaluating ET Estimation, Capacitance Sensors and Deficit Irrigation in the Upper Midwest

چکیده
During the 2003 and 2004 growing seasons, research was conducted on a 'Providence' creeping bentgrass (Agrostis stolonifera L.) sand green at the University of Minnesota St. Paul campus to evaluate the use of ECH20 capacitance soil moisture sensors and FAO 56 ET (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations Evapotranspiration) estimation in scheduling turfgrass irrigation by applying prescribed irrigation treatments based on replacement of 100% actual ET loss and either 100% or 80% of FAO 56 estimated ET loss in a series of four 10 day experiments. Turf quality and soil moisture response to deficit irrigation treatments were also assessed. FAO 56 ET estimation accurately predicted actual ET, and a summer crop coefficient (kc) of 0.98 was calculated. ECH20 probes were highly sensitive to changes in soil moisture. There were no significant differences in root zone water storage fluctuation between treatments. Lysimetry and sensor data indicated the presence of a substantial thatch effect on irrigation infiltration and ET loss. Daily irrigation consistently wetted the soil no deeper than 10 cm. There were no statistical differences in turf quality between irrigation treatments in any experiment, suggesting that replacement of 80% of actual ET is sufficient to maintain acceptable daily irrigated creeping bentgrass in Minnesota.

Influence of Humic Substances on Irrigation Frequency and Phosphate Absorption of Creeping Bentgrass Putting Greens
Humic substances (HS) reportedly enhance moisture retention of soil. However, no information is available as to the effects of HS on sand-based golf course putting greens. HS have acidic functional groups (COOH) that are reaction sites on the molecule. An greenhouse experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect that the acidic functional groups in humic acid, tannic acid and citric acid have ...

Addressing deficit irrigation scheduling (DIS) for strategic crop production (especially wheat) under precipitation uncertainty is a priority for irrigation scheduling in drought conditions. This research investigated the precipitation uncertainty by enacting optimistic and pessimistic scenarios for the next 20 years by considering the statistical record of climate in Badjgah area. DIS was cond...
متن کاملClipping contributions to nitrate leaching from creeping bentgrass under varying irrigation and N rates
The effect of clipping management on nitrate (NO3) leaching beneath creeping bentgrass (Agrostis stolonifera L.) has received little attention. The objective of this experiment was to examine the effects of returning grass clippings to creeping bentgrass in combination with N fertilization and irrigation on NO3 leaching. A 30-week long experiment was conducted using fairway-height creeping bent...

Nitrogen (N) uptake (kg ha-1) of field-grown potatoes was measured in 4.32 m2 lysimeters that were filled with coarse sand, loamy sand, and sandy loam and subjected to full (FI), deficit (DI), and partial root-zone drying (PRD) irrigation strategies. PRD and DI as water-saving irrigation treatments received 65% of FI after tuber bulking and lasted for six weeks until final harvest. Results show...
متن کاملThe Investigation of the Estimation Precision of Infiltration Equation Parameters Based on Soil Physics Characteristics for Furrow Irrigation
Furrow irrigation is the most common method of surface irrigation. However, the accurate estimation of the soil water infiltration equation is the most important challenge for evaluating this method of irrigation. In this study, a fast and simple method that is named soil intake families and presented by USDA-NRCS (RSIF), evaluated for estimation of the Kostiakove-lewis infiltration equation pa...
